Secretary General
Alexander Herzog has been Secretary General of PHARMIG – Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry in Austria since July 2018.
PHARMIG is the voluntary, party-politically independent association of the pharmaceutical industry in Austria. The approximately 120 member companies (as of January 2023) with about 18,000 employees cover approximately 95 percent of the domestic pharmaceutical market.

After earning his business administration degree from the University of Graz in 1991, Mr. Alexander Herzog started his career in various business enterprises (among others IBM Eastern Europe, Austrian Research Centers Seibersdorf GmbH). In 2003 he joined the Vienna business agency, where he held numerous leading positions. In 2006 Mr. Herzog set up his own business and operated as a management consultant specializing in private equity, renovation management and restructuring management. From 2007 to 2014 he was employed as the Senior Representative and a member of the Management Board for the Vienna Regional Health Insurance Fund.
Becoming Vice Chairman of the Social Security Service for Entrepreneurs (SVA), in 2014, he was responsible for the institution’s management. Simultaneously, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Main Association of Austrian Social Security Institutions.

Alexander Herzog is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AMVO - Austria Medicines Verification Organization and the Executive Vice President of Pharmig Academy, the Education Center in Pharma and Health. Moreover, he is a member of the Committee of common health affairs, a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Health Policy Forum, a member of the advisory board of the Alpbach Health Symposium as well as a member of the WIFO’s (Austrian Institute for Economic Research) Board of Trustees.

On the international level he also holds positions in the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA).
